Screenprint
Screenprint
Screen printing is a printing technique where a mesh is used to transfer ink onto a substrate, using a mesh
screen, ink and a squeegee, except in areas made impermeable to the ink by a blocking stencil. A squeegee
is moved across the screen, either by hand or with an automatic press, to fill the open mesh apertures with
ink, this is called flooding the screen. Then a reverse stroke causes the screen to touch the substrate
momentarily along a line of contact while dragging the whole length of the design down the screen,
this is called the print stroke. This action causes the ink to come in contact with the substrate and then be
pulled out of the mesh apertures as the screen springs back after the blade has passed. One color is
printed at a time, so several screens can be used to produce a multi-colored image, design or logos.
Screen print runs are usually larger but can be as minimum as 1 dozen of the same design.
